Weight Loss: Losing Muscle Mass During Dieting

Weight Loss: Losing Muscle Mass During Dieting

The issues of muscle bulk and weight loss

Sometimes it will happen that a person loses a significant amount of weight but yet they remain very unhappy because they have lost muscle as well. They will then have an unhealthy and callow look that is the opposite of what they wanted in the first place. This then leads them to the murky world of steroids and over training. These are the things that one has to consider when they find that they have lost both the weight and muscle after a program:

  • Steroids are never the answer. These are substances that will bulk you up but they come with some rather unfortunate side effects including flatulence and mood changes. In fact they have been banned in many jurisdictions such that you might end up before the courts if you continue to use them despite the express formulation of the law against them. Never allow yourself to be convinced that the steroids are the way to build your muscle after weight loss. There are anecdotal stories of young men that have had heart attacks after a long period of taking steroids in order to build muscle mass.
  • Training too much is also not the answer to weight loss problems. There is a limit to what you can achieve with a program of weight training. In fact the laws of diminishing returns might increasingly reduce the outcomes that you have when you start to use the gym on a regular basis. You should create reasonable program that is able to deal with your needs but does not place too much strain on your body or schedule. This is the only way that you can expect excellent results from working with the different machines in the gym. Eventually you will have the right mix of muscle and fat to lead a healthy lifestyle.
  • You need to consume carbohydrates and protein in order to build muscle. These are the nutrients that will give you the energy to exercise and the ability to build your muscle cells. You should incorporate them within the diet and see whether they can bring you some good results in the long run. If they are not working then you should look to something else. This is one of the great challenges that you will have to face on your weight loss program.
  • Each of us is different so that there is no ideal body shape. You need to accept who you are at some point. There is no point in hankering for something that can never be. You might want to look like that super model on the magazine covers when your genetic makeup set you up to be totally different. You should be mature enough to accept the situation with good grace and see whether you can make something serious out of it. That is why it is so important to have some counseling if you are facing significant problems with your weight loss program.
